Dr. Carlton I Phelps, passed away at the early age of 60 from cancer.  Losing his father refocused Carlton on his goal of continuing the legacy of civil rights and helping to protect those rights for this generation.

“My father was active locally as a Basketball Coach and Church Trustee. He and my mom led by example, and instilled in me a strong work ethic, compassion and empathy, and an ethical approach to life while striving to achieve my goals. I want to put my skills to work on the issues that matter—affordable housing, education, transportation and of course on making progress each day for a more equitable Commonwealth.”

Affordable Housing - All throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including Framingham and Ashland, housing affordability is an issue for many residents. I want to apply my experience and expertise to this issue, which means looking at down payment assistance, increased state incentives to encourage strategic development of affordable housing, and other potential solutions to this vexing challenge.

Education - We hold the key to our future with the value we place on the quality, fairness, and effectiveness of our public education. The success of our students begins in their early development. We must fully fund our schools and provide financial assistance for parents to enroll in quality pre-kindergarten programs.  We must measure our success throughout a student’s school career. We can retain the MCAS but need the flexibility to ensure that it is an effective measurement of progress for all students.

Transportation - I will continue to listen to all Massachusetts residents and their needs; with the pressing issue of transportation, I  believe in collaboration with both state and local officials to aid Massachusetts Department of Transportation funding for the district of Ashland and Framingham. We must fix the MBTA so that it is once again a reliable commuting option for the thousands of MetroWest residents who are working in Greater Boston. We must also upgrade and modernize our infrastructure so that our roads and bridges are safe and reliable.

Transparency – Voters deserve to know how their representative votes on the legislation that is impacting their lives. I will be a strong voice and advocate for more transparency-and accountability- in the House of Representatives.
