Carlton Phelps Announces Candidacy for State Representative, 7th Middlesex District

Framingham, MA - May 23, 2024 - Carlton Phelps, an esteemed Ashland resident and dedicated community leader, officially declared his candidacy for State Representative for the 7th Middlesex District, to represent the people and interests of Framingham and Ashland on Beacon Hill.

Expressing his commitment to progressive, data-driven solutions, Carlton Phelps stated, "I look forward to earning the Democratic Party nomination for State Representative because I want to bring progressive, community based, metric-driven solutions to the challenges we face. We can’t afford any longer to ignore the housing crisis, mishandling of our budget, or lack of transparency coming from Beacon Hill. Sadly, the current representative is a symbol of leadership that has favored ignoring or quick solutions that have made problems worse. I ask the voters of Framingham and Ashland for their support and their vote."

Carlton brings a wealth of experience and a deeply rooted commitment to public service. Raised in Alexandria, Virginia by his late father, Dr. Carlton I. Phelps, and his mother Toni, a devoted public-school teacher, Carlton was instilled with values of fairness, equity, and a passion for Civil Rights from a young age.

Currently he works at the sales division of Yale Appliance in Framingham, Carlton is deeply involved in his Ashland’s civic life. He serves as a Trustee of the Ashland Affordable Housing Trust, volunteers at the MetroWest YMCA and Clear Path for Veterans New England, and supports Advocates Framingham, a vital organization dedicated to addiction recovery and community justice. Additionally, he is an active member of the Ashland Democratic Town Committee.

Carlton wants to address the housing crisis head on. His background in Residential Real Estate Analysis for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston is one reason for running. Carlton's expertise lies at the intersection of housing and public policy. Recognizing affordable housing as one of the region's most pressing challenges, Carlton's years of experience uniquely position him to address these issues effectively on Beacon Hill.

A graduate of Marymount University in Northern Virginia, Carlton earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and excelled as a first team all Capital Athletic Conference member on the Marymount basketball team.
